Equipment problems
It is becoming increasingly clear that the much of the army’s equipment is woefully inadequate for current operations. This is resulting in deaths. To name just a few equipment issues:
Snatch Landrovers are vulnerable to almost all enemy action and there are not enough suitable alternatives; there are not enough helicopters to provide a ‘comfortable’ level of air mobility; the helicopter fleet is often old with serviceability problems; RAF Hercules aircraft were found to be extremely vulnerable to even small arms fire.
(Please add to this list and I would be most keen to hear of deficiencies in all three services)
Equipment is driver of tactics and it’s development is also a consequence of tactical requiremens,t so there are two questions to be posed:
1) What existing equipment should we be purchasing and utilising?
2) What equipment should we be looking at developing in order to enhance our ability to fight the type of wars we are currently engaged in?
